Fertility = Whole Body Health

Hormones, inflammation, gut health, and nutrients all impact fertility.

Fertility is often approached as a reproductive-only issue, but in reality, it reflects overall physiological health. The body must feel safe, nourished, and balanced in order to support conception and pregnancy. When systems such as the thyroid, adrenal glands, or gut are out of balance, fertility can be significantly affected.

At Inner Balance Functional Medicine, we support both men and women across Colorado and California in preparing their bodies for conception through a root-cause, systems-based approach.

Common Root Causes

  • Hormone imbalance

  • Inflammation

  • Blood sugar issues

  • Nutrient deficiencies

Many fertility challenges stem from subtle imbalances that may not appear on standard lab work. For example, elevated cortisol can suppress reproductive hormones, while insulin resistance can interfere with ovulation and hormone signaling.

Inflammation—often driven by gut dysfunction or food sensitivities—can also impair implantation and increase the risk of miscarriage.

Functional Approach: Fertility Functional Medicine

  • Lab testing

  • Hormone optimization

  • Gut repair

We take a comprehensive approach by evaluating hormone levels, metabolic health, nutrient status, and gut function. From there, we build a personalized plan that may include nutrition, supplementation, stress management, and lifestyle changes.

This approach not only improves fertility outcomes but also supports a healthier pregnancy and long-term health for both parent and child. This works for dozens of our patients every year with our fertility functional medicine program.

Keep in mind, this isn't just for women. The health of the male donor is key in the health of that sperm. Men should make a special effort to optimize their health for 6 months prior to conceiving to create the healthiest sperm and the healthiest baby!
