Your Gut Is the Control Center

Over 70% of your immune system lives in your gut, and 80-90% of your serotonin also lives in your gut. Serotonin is your "happy" drug. Serotonin is also a precursor for melatonin, meaning you need serotonin in order to make melatonin to get to sleep. Deep sleep is where your regenerative cells are the most active.

The microbiome influences hormone metabolism, neurotransmitter production, inflammation, fertility, autoimmune regulation, and post-viral recovery. When gut health is compromised, symptoms appear throughout the body.

Signs of Gut Dysfunction

  • Bloating, reflux, constipation, diarrhea

  • Brain fog and fatigue

  • Skin issues

  • Food reactions

  • Hormone imbalances

  • Autoimmune flares

  • Persistent symptoms after COVID

How Functional Medicine Assesses Gut Health

We use comprehensive stool testing and organic acids testing to evaluate:

  • Microbial balance

  • Intestinal permeability

  • Inflammation

  • Short-chain fatty acids

  • Digestive capacity

Gut Health & Long COVID

Post-viral gut inflammation can perpetuate fatigue, immune dysregulation, respiratory symptoms, and food sensitivities. Gut repair is often foundational to long COVID recovery.
