Pain and Pain Relief

It constantly amazes me how many pain-killers are out there. On the prescription side there’s Vicodin, Percocet, Norco, Methadone, Tramadol, Oxycodone, Celebrex, etc…. Then you go into any grocery store, convenience store or drugstore and you can get Advil, Tylenol, Aleve, Aspirin, Motrin, etc…. There was even that horrible Head On product that had commercials that ran back to back. They would show someone putting it on their forehead with what looked like underarm deodorant. The ads seem to “suggest” it was for headaches, but they never actually said it was beneficial for anything. Brilliant marketing when you think about it.

My point is, there are a ton of people out there looking for pain relief and there’s a ton of pharmaceutical companies wanting to get you to buy their products. The problem is, your body isn’t in pain because of a deficiency in ibuprofen, acetaminophen or vicodin. Ibuprofen can cause gastrointestinal bleeding (this is bad). Acetaminophen can cause liver failure (this is really bad). Vicodin can cause irregular breathing, liver failure, urination problems, slowed heart-rate, uncontrollable drowsiness and another dozen side effects (this is really really bad).

I’m not saying not to take any medications. I’m saying there are too many people blindly taking way too many medications. I’m also saying that there’s some really big companies out there making a lot of money from pushing these drugs. They’re not looking for you to get better. They’re looking for lifelong customers.

If you’d like to try some drug-free therapies, there are a lot of options out there. If you’d like to try acupuncture and you live in Orange County, I’d love to help you consume less pain-killers and get out of pain.
